Abe
Movie Screening and Conversation
Presented by Avante Art Foundation in collaboration with Brazil Screens and Instituto Cervantes
Avante Art Foundation proudly hosted a special screening of Abe, a heartwarming film about a 12-year-old boy navigating his mixed heritage through cooking. The event included a post-screening conversation about culture, identity, and the role of food as a bridge. This program was made possible thanks to our partners Brazil Screens and Instituto Cervantes.

Unity through food
As part of our mission to inspire dialogue through the arts, Avante Art Foundation hosted a community screening of Abe — a moving coming-of-age film directed by Fernando Grostein Andrade. The story follows Abe, a 12-year-old boy from Brooklyn born to a Jewish-Israeli mother and a Muslim-Palestinian father, who turns to cooking as a way to navigate and reconcile his multicultural identity.
Held in partnership with Brazil Screens and Instituto Cervantes, the event brought together audiences of all ages to reflect on themes of family, tradition, and the power of food as a universal language. Following the screening, attendees were invited to a conversation exploring how stories like Abe can spark empathy, understanding, and cross-cultural connection.
This event reflects Avante Art Foundation’s commitment to elevating inclusive narratives and using art as a tool for healing, education, and community building.
